My Door is Always Open. Kinda.

Next Thursday, October 31st, will be our First Annual CrossFit Zenith Halloween WOD! The WOD is going to be in place of the 6:30 PM class ’cause there’s just no sense in running through a cemetery in the daylight, right? Wear a costume, bring snacks/alcohol, prepare to have a good time and possible kill a few zombies. Or ghosts. Oooo… ghost zombies!

Well, yesterday was half of a red letter day. I snuck out midday and bought a door for the office so I wouldn’t freeze my ass off all morning. As you can see from the picture above, its sole locking/shutting/hinging/standing upright mechanism is one of my chairs wedged up against it. So very ghetto, yet so very warm.

Looking over at my near zombie-proof door got me thinking about doors and this little office of mine. While said door might not always be open (especially in the winter), it will rarely be locked. Assuming that there’s no one sitting across from me and I don’t make frantic “not now, NOT NOOOWWW!” motions when I see you through the NOT zombie-proof aquarium-style window, you’re always welcome in here. If you see through the window I’m on the phone, staring intently at the computer screen or staring into space talking to myself, you might want to give a knock, but otherwise, mi casa, su casa.

That applies to the gym in general. I’m pretty much here all day long, and tend to have a few vast swaths of downtime.

Which I fill with important activities.

Occasionally, I might have to run out on an errand (I usually try to do that in the 1:30-3:00 time block), but we’re about to have a way on the website for you to find that out. Perhaps tomorrow! Or someday! Anyway, if you’re in the neighborhood and you see a green Subaru parked out front, I’m here and you should stop in and keep me sane. So any time you want to stop in, whether it’s to chat, discuss goals, hang out, tour the facility or watch the trains pass by, feel free to come on in.

If you're lucky, you might even see a giraffe.

Another good thing about the open doors time is: plenty of time for mobility! We’ve got those excellent posters from MobilityWOD on the wall that break down some good moves for various movements, perfect for doing a little work before class. Also, as I may have mentioned, I’m probably in the office anyway, so feel free to ask for some mobility help.

Just don't include the extra punctuation that Mo, Mark and Alice added: "Mobility? Help!"

Even better, since this is a CrossFit gym, that means you can work out here occasionally too! Woo! Here are the same trio taking on the hero WOD “Jack” yesterday after the mobility everyone loves so much.

It took lots of selective cheering to get everyone spaced out on a different movement, but it was worth it for The Art!
