It’s almost here! Next week will mark the start of our new Olympic Weightlifting class coached by Frank and Virginia! All this week we’ll be talking about the class and the coaches. For now, let’s talk a little bit about what this class is.
Olympic Weightlifting is based around two lifts: the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. In Olympic lifting, the athlete performs these two weighted barbell movements at maximum weight.
Now if you’ve been CrossFitting you know that these two movements show up in the WODs all of the time in various ways. One day in class you may perform a Snatch or just a clean or just a jerk.
The Olympic Weightlifting class will take you through all the progressions of the Snatch as well as the Clean and Jerk and really narrow in on proper form. We will focus on the two lifts but also accessory work to build power and strength and build your all around strengths as athletes.
The class will be offered on Tuesday and Thursdays nights at 5:30pm (during FIT Class, but around the corner). It is important to commit to the twice per week schedule to see maximum results. Each Olympic lifting cycle is broken into 12 weeks and each week the skill and weight builds off the previous week. Not only will you get stronger over the course of the 12 week cycle but your form will improve, which in turn will allow you to push yourself without injury in the future.
