What is the CrossFit Games?
The CrossFit Games is the Super Bowl of CrossFit. Since 2007, the CrossFit Games have evolved to answer the question of who is the Fittest on Earth. Each year the Games are a more comprehensive test of fitness, and the athletes raise the level of competition to unprecedented heights. The 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games will be held at the StubHub Center in Carson, California on July 19 – 24, 2016. At this point in the season, the field has been whittled down from hundreds of thousands of athletes in the Open to the world’s fittest 40 men, 40 women, 40 teams, 40 teenagers, and 200 masters. The CrossFit Games rank the world’s fittest, and determine who is the Fittest on Earth.
What is the CrossFit Games Open?
The CrossFit Games Open is the first step leading to the crowning of the “Fittest on Earth”. The CrossFit Games Open is a five-week, five-workout online competition which accurately ranks the fitness of hundreds of thousands of competitors.
Held in CrossFit affiliates and garage gyms around the world, the Open is designed to be accessible to all athletes while rigorous enough to challenge the world’s fittest. Each workout that is announced will have very clear criteria for judging and everyone will be held to the same standards. Fourteen-year-old high school freshmen compete in the Open, as well as their 77-year-old grandparents and everyone in between. During the Open workouts, you get a rare opportunity to do the same exact workouts during the same week as the best CrossFitters in the world and see how you stack up! Each Thursday night, the new workout is announced and athletes have until Monday evening to complete the workout.
Do I have to sign up online?
No. You are not required to sign up on the CrossFit Games website in order to participate in the CrossFit Games Open Zenith Intramurals. However, if you want to see where you stand among other athletes around the world in your age group, follow this link to sign up: https://games.crossfit.com/cf/login?returnTo=%2Fregister-athlete&flow=games (the signup fee is $20). If you do wish to signup online, we highly recommend you choose the Scaled Option. The RX Option is guaranteed to have muscle ups and other very complex movements. The Scaled Option will be accessible to all.
How will we do it Zenith Style?
Every member of the gym will participate in the Zenith Intramurals – whether or not you signed up officially on the Games website. This event is more about participation than performance. Don’t worry if you’re new to CrossFit or not in as great shape as you think you need to be. Everyone can contribute to the success of their team!
When will we do the workouts?
The official CrossFit Games Open workout will be done in all classes on Fridays as well as the Friday Night Lights Event! If you signed up on the CrossFit Games website, you need to be judged by a certified judge (Brian, Mike or Barb). Be sure to contact one of them to make sure you will have a judge available when you do the workout.
What are the teams?
All current members will be assigned randomly to one of three teams (Red, Blue & Green – Black & Purple colors are reserved for the Zenith Games in April). Each team will have also have an assigned Captain. Teams and Captains will be announced on Facebook later this week.

Members will nominate fellow athletes who they believe deserve this award each week and the coaches will choose the winner. There will not be any points associated with this award, so we encourage you to look at the players on all teams when you decide who deserves this award.
When are the workouts announced?
Each Thursday at 8:00pm, starting 2/25, the workout of the week will be announced online. We’ll have a TV set up in the gym so we can find out what the workout is and watch some elite CrossFitters do the workout immediately after the announcement. Feel free to stop by the gym and hang out!
When will we do the workouts?
The main event is Friday Night Lights! Throughout the Open, Fridays will be a party! From 6:00pm on, we’ll replace our regular Friday night classes with heats of the Open workouts**. After the workout we will all celebrate with our traditional Beer Friday. All workouts on Fridays will consist of the Open workouts so if you cannot attend Friday Night Lights you still can earn your points by attending a morning class or 4:30 pm (except 2/26). If you can’t attend any of the Friday classes or Friday Night Lights, there will be a makeup session during Open Gym on Sunday**.
Please note: Due to a scheduling conflict with our Ragnar Fundraiser on Friday 2/26, there will be no evening classes at all. Only the morning classes will do this workout. Instead, we will do the workout on Saturday 2/27 morning with a modified schedule. There will be no 8:00 class and the 16.1 workout will be done from 9:00 to 11:00.** The event will include a breakfast potluck afterwards.
** For those of you who are registering online for the CrossFit Open and need official scoring we will have judges available.
Get ready! This is going to be FUN!!!!!!
